HOW TO WRITE BASIC CALLIGRAPHY

Practice is an important piece when you really want to start writing calligraphy. In this blog, I'm going to teach you the easiest way to write basic calligraphy.

Step #1 - The UPSTROKES and DOWNSTROKES

You must start with the most basics when learning calligraphy. The first step is to practice the basic strokes. There are eight different kinds of basic strokes, however in this post I'll only discuss the upstrokes and downstrokes.

UPSTROKES

An upstrokes is any upward movement of the pen on the paper. Light pressure is used during upstrokes, which should be thinner than downstrokes.

DOWNSTROKES

A downstrokes is any downward movement of the pen on the paper. These are created with more pressure and need to be thicker.

Step #2 - Apply it on the alphabet

All of the calligraphy alphabet is made up of strokes. For your second step, try to apply the upstrokes and downstrokes to the entire alphabet. I'll give you some example:

As you can see in the photo, the black lines are upstrokes, and the red lines are downstrokes. Always remember that upstrokes have a thin line and downstrokes have a thick line. In the given example, all the red lines should be written upward with a light pressure, followed by black lines written downward with a heavier pressure.

Step #3 - Start to write words

Finish doing practices? Now, start to write some simple words that you might like in calligraphy. Practice the strokes over and over again until they’re consistent. The more consistent your strokes, the more consistent your letters. You can make it!
